One of our best trips yet. Jeff and Carol with the group of 10 from St. Louis, MI. Thanks to Chad, Jay, Bruce, Peter, Jut, Pat, Nick, Kevin, Tiffany and Casey. They all brought a willing spirit and a great attitude. They left their clothes, shoes, food, guitar and a part of their heart. The brothers and sisters in Ouanamenthe say thanks for sharing Jesus. You will be in their prayers at 4 a.m. every morning. What a mighty God we serve.

There are no small jobs, just big hearts. The whole group from St. Louis were excellent and the teenagers were outstanding. They always recognized what needed to be done and were not afraid to do it. Carrying buckets of water was something imperative to the success of drilling the wells but was no easy task. Each bucket weighed 40 lbs. (the older members of the body were very thankful for the younger members of the body)

One of the neatest things about serving God is sweating for Jesus. There is no black or white, no chief or indians, no boss and workers, we are all servants. We really want to thank Godson Myrtil who made the rough 10 hr. trip from Port-Au-Prince and left his wife and family to work with us. We also want to thank Bruce Daniels and the group from St.Louis, MI. who left their families to come and serve. Communication was not a problem because we were all fluent in the universal language of Love. The common goal was to work tirelessly until the job was done.

We said it was good to get home because we missed having a hot shower. But, we said we were so glad we went because when we first arrived they had a hole in the ground, getting muddy water out with a bucket. When we left we were part of drilling three wells with clear water flowing. Since we have been home we have talked to Arcenio, he reports that many people are coming daily to get fresh, free water.

This is the last of several pictures I took of this little girl as she carried her brother down the long road, she turned and headed for the market. Many times we get overwhelmed by all the needs. This little girl didn't feel she had a burden. He ain't heavy he's my brother! If only we could live more simple others could simply live!

Why go to Liberia?

Lots of people asked me thatbefore I left. It's eaiser to answer now that I've gone. The scripture say " the harvest is plentiful the workers are few pray to the Lord to send workers into His field". Isiah says " who will I send Who will go? and I said here am I send me."

Ok but why Liberia? Why not someplace in the US. My answer is why not both? Weekly Carol and I are involved with peoples lives with marriage mentoring or Bible studies here in the US. The best answer is prepare yourself, be willing to go where God may send you. Then pray that God will use you. The last few years Carol and I have been praying that God will open doors for us and that we will be willing to go where He sends.

This trip I learned more about fish farming. I learned a lot about prayer and worship. I had the privilege of working with Liberian preachers they are very dedicated. I also made wonderful friendships with 20 Orphan boys. I have never seen anyone work so hard in my life without complaining..

Saturday eve. I spoke about the lost sheep, coins and son in Luke 15

The kids got to bleat like sheep and helped me look for the lost one. The screamed with joy as I put one of the small ones on my sholder and announced he was found. They related to the lost coins. Because of post war inflation it now takes 70 Liberian Dollars to equal one american dollar. There coins are rare dow the smallest bill they use ia a $5 bill. When I asked if any had any coins many have lost them , because their not used anymore..

There was lots of good singing. One of their favorite is tomorrow tomorrow What will you say tomorrow when Jesus comes and you reject him today.

Sat eve. I had the privilege of staying at preacher Festus Flomos home. He said it was a 5min walk I think that was 5 Liberian minutes more like 45 American. I voluntered to cary two plastic chairs on my head, after 15 min I wish I had not. Then I looked beside me and a 10 yr boy was caring a 8' wooden bench, time to stop whinning. We arrived at there home in was in an area of rolling hills , a new settlement with lots of new buildings. Flomos home was block two small bedrooms 8x10 and a large 10x20 room that was used for church service.

They insisted I sleep in their bed and gave me a new sheet still in the pacage. Iaccepted and they slept on the floor with the 5 children.

Sunday morning came early 4:30 am . Children were up repeating scripture. The Lord is my shepherd. This was followed by prayer. The prayer was simple and meaninful Lord we thank you we are among the counted. Somebody wanna praise you, somebody wanna dance, somebody wanna hear your word but they cant, they in the hospital or the morgue but we can cause we counted among the living.

We held open air Meetings near tis location.
Last night I hoped to finish watching Passion of the Christ. The night before we were rained out in the middle. Last night we had to technical problems. I didn't notice too much smoke got let out of the power regulator and then 5 minutes later too much smoke got let out of the projector.

I called a code smoke and tried to do mouth to projector resesitation. I saved the outside of the box however there was extensive damage to the internal parts. So much for tecnology. I decided to go the old fashion route told the old old story of Jesus and the cross. The Bible says if we lift Jesus up we will draw all men unto him. Ten people heard the word and were Immersed into Jesus. Gods word will not return void.

Tuesday am I went to the department of fisheries of all Liberia. We were recieved well. I was told the director was praying and would see me in a moment. I asked if I could go in and pray with him, so they took me in. I prayed for the man and his family and for Liberia. I explained that I wanted to help the war Orphans. The director put me with two people and a truck with "no fuel" After we put fuel in the truck we drove to the Anna Enoch orphanage and they did an assement for us. I hope to spend the next 4 days establishing a fish pond there. Please pray for sucess. I hope to sleep there so I can get an early start.
I may not get internet access again for a while.

Who is the king of your life. Liberia has made great progress rebuilding after several years of civil war. This would be a great place for any Nation to start. " If my people who are called by My name would humble themselves and pray God would heal our nation too.

I'm sending some major praises up tonight! Just got off the phone with dad- his voice never sounded so sweet! Right now they are in the Dominican and will fly out tomorrow, so of course prayers are still needed for safe travel. I know the guys are probably exhausted after sleeping on Leon's roof in tents, especially since it rained last night. However, it sounds like it was an incredible trip. God was listening to all of your prayers and I truly believe He went before them and stayed with them the entire time, guiding every move. I love it when God answers our prayers with something even better than we had planned! I was praying for them to get the truck to go from the Dominican to Port Au Prince. The wisdom of my father prompted him to pray simply for transportation. God is much wiser than I am, and provided a 45 minute flight rather than hours of travel on bad roads. I also wanted to clarify- on the last email I said they bought 16 thousand pounds of food- it was actually $16,000 worth of food equaling 32,000 pounds of food. Simply amazing! And a HUGE thank you to all of you who so generously donated to help that happen. One of my main concerns about this trip was the threat of gang violence in Cite Soleil, not to mention the unrest that can arise with huge crowds of hungry people at food distributions. I asked my dad if he noticed any signs of gangs or violence and he said ZERO. This is a quote: "The country was the most tranquil and hospitable as I've ever seen it in the last 25 years." I was so relieved to hear this and want people to know that even though sometimes the media portrays Haitian people as violent and ungrateful, that is usually not the case. The people right now are very scared to go back into their homes and most people are not in their homes, even if they weren't damaged. Dad thinks there may have been a small aftershock when they were there. He's not sure, but he did feel something. They've been told not to go back in until their homes are inspected. I don't know how that process will take place, but it doesn't sound easy. So that means right now all these people are trying to survive in very inadequate shelters. Another trip is being planned focusing on restoring building. When Jeff is back in the States, we'll send another update with more details and I'm sure pictures too. Update from Haiti

Just a quick catch up.Things have gone great- only by prayer and the grace of God.We made it through customs in the Dominican Republic easily. Then we got a taxi to the bus station and arrived in Dajabon by 7 pm. We met Arcenio and he told us he did not have a truck for the next day. We prayed for transportation We didn't buy supplies because it would be too hard carrying it all on the bus. We cleared customs at 9am and got a bus at 10. We called Jeremy on the way he said there were flights out of Cap Haitien. At 3pm we were on a flight to Port Au Prince. At 3:45 we were in Port Au Prince. Leon picked us up @ 4pm- Praise the Lord. We went directly to Cite Soleil. We slept on the roof at Leon's Wednesday night. Today we went to Citi Soleil and Jeff Graham helped a medical clinic near there. John, Dave, and I went to buy food. We bought 16 K pounds of food- enough for 3 thousand families. We asked the workers to load the truck for free. After singing several songs with them they agreed. That is 7and 1/2 tons on the first load. When the truck left the depot we were going to get in the back and didn't. It turned left, started up a hill and stopped, but the brakes couldn't hold. The truck came roaring back and took out a gate and part of a wall and pinned a worker. He was ok. We were able to fix the gate and no one got too upset. The 2nd trip was eaiser. We plan to go to St. Marc for one day. Arcenio had to leave early, his wife is in the hospital. Please pray for her. Jeff Badgero

For such a time as this

Jeff Badgero and Dave Tugan from Kalkaska, MI., John Vernon from Atlanta, GA., and Jeff Graham from Mt. Pleasant, MI. will be flying out for Haiti tomorrow(Tues. Feb.2) morning. After several attempts to try to get flights right in to Port-Au-Prince they have decided to fly in through the Dominican Republic. Arcenio Jimenez, our friend and preacher in Quanaminthe, which is on the border of Dom. Rep., has already made two trips to Port to deliver and distribute food. Once on money he collected himself and once on money we wire transferred in. He said the roads were clear and he was able to make the trip in 12 hours, which is actually pretty good timing.
Emmanuel Pierre, from St. Marc also made the trip two times, once on his own and once with Arcenio. Emmanuel was able to connect with Leon D'Orleans, a friend and preacher in Port. I would like to share with you a couple of emails we received from Leon. "Happy to hear from you brother, we're still alive and are determined more than ever to serve the Lord. Our time is short, we only have today to serve. I'm very happy, pleased and encouraged by your commitment to your brothers and sisters in Haiti. Hoping to see you when you come."
"Thank you for the precious gift 'in such a time as this' when its really and truly needed. With your donation we plan to buy rice, beans and oil to pass out on Saturday to people in City Soleil. Leon and Jacky."
We are very thankful for men like Emmanuel and Arcenio and are looking forward to going and working with them. Please pray for this trip.

The last night was very good.

The only natural resource is salt. Everyone makes a living from tourism or off shore banking. The cost of living is extremely high. Lodging is the biggest expense about $700 to $1000 per month. Hotels run from $100 to $400 per night for modest rooms. Condos don’t have a limit they go from $400 to as high as $4000 per night a month in a Condo is $40,000. I checked on rooms again today , I went to three different places they were all full. The cheapest was $500 per month with shared bathroom, also not the cleanest place. last two days we were in Caicos we made several connections, mostly from riding in taxis and talking to the drivers. We found a good clean place to eat for $5. The place where we staying had an unfinished upstairs that had a bathroom and electric avail that they said they would rent to us by the week. This is a good central location that is near a main teaching area that you could walk to.

The Last night we were finally able to organize a small meeting with about 30 people. When I arrived several people said they had given me a ride in the last week. I had several photos from the hurricane in Haiti last year. The pictures of the fish ponds brought a question “ do you know Jacque Myrtil from Gonaives?” There were several people who knew people that we knew. I also showed photos from India and talked about the persecution the people face when they became Christians. When I finished with the photos I spoke on the one church, weekly communion and gave three conversion stories. Ethiopian Eunuch, Paul in Damascus, and the Jailor in Acts 16. When I finished speaking they has lots of questions. We talked for about an hour answering each question from the scripture. I encouraged them to have the courage of Paul that if they were not in Christ Church and they were following traditions of men that they needed to change. I told them they could meet in their homes and gave examples from Col 4:15,Rom 16:5 and Philemon v 2. They were very encouraging and told me they would be meeting every Sunday at 10 am. I have their contact numbers and will keep in touch with them. They ask me to return. I told them I would, Lord willing soon.
Thanks for following the blog we still have a few photos to sort through and post. We arrived home after a 16hr drive from Atlanta Ga > I must say it's good to be home.

``We made a quick trip to Haiti, The flight was excellent , the road travel reminded us that we need to learn to be content in all things Philip 4:11. We can truly say we have traveled in a truck by ourselves in the US and we can also say we have traveled in the back of a mini pickup with 15 of our closest friends in Haiti. We know what is is to have need for passengers and what it is to have plenty.
Paul wrote to Titus He said the reason he left him in Crete was to straighten out some things. From time to time things need to be straightened out, there was a misunderstanding of some direction given for the work in Passe Rene the last time we were in. Fortunately things didn’t get too far off track. There were heavy rains in the end of July that resulted in a flash flood at Passe Rene. A small concrete building on the back of the church building was washed away and the river came over it’s bank and washed out the fish ponds there. So we helped stock the river with fish, hopefully someone will benefit from this.
We also visited the fish ponds in Bigot and Brother Jacques house. What a blessing. The last trip we were trying to buy fish everywhere when we saw Jacque he told us he just received 1000 gratis “free”. I believe they all survived and he tells us they have also multiplied. The ponds were full, what a wonderful sight. Many times you face discouragement on the mission field but God is faithful there are also many blessings.
We traveled up the mountain to check on our friends Telle and his family. It is always a difficult walk but always a blessing to see them. It’s one of those things where you go to encourage someone but instead you are the one that gets encouraged. When we got to Cap Haitian we checked in to a hotel we were in the room a short time when they announced Mister Jimenez was here to see us. Arcenio had heard that we were in town so he road a motorcycle 40 miles to see us. While he was here he got on 3 different cell phones and called several people to try to find a contact in Caicos. After a few minutes he was successful and arranged to have Jorell meet us at noon the next day.
We have a meeting scheduled for this evening please be in prayer about this. We have talked to several people and invited them to a small home at 7pm. Jorell a young man that was baptized by Arcenio in Quanamet Haiti is living there. We hope that he will be willing to get something started here. We leave for the states tomorrow, we will try to update Saturday from home.

We just got back to Caicos from Haiti. It was so good to see everybody and encourage the brothers and sisters in Christ and get encouraged ourselves. Jacques family is doing very well and the fish ponds are full. We were in worship service with Jacque on Sunday so we were able to see almost all of his family and all of our friends in Gonaives. We did walk up the mountain to see Telly and family and Mme Remi. As we get older it gets harder and harder to walk up the mountain but once we make it, we are never disappointed. Telly and his family are the sweetest people. Remi and Canas are both sons of Telly's. Since Telly has a sore leg we knew the only way to see him was to walk up the mountain. Well, we made it and I'm sure it was good for us.

We of course rode the public transportation and there is always stories to tell from that. One time when we were getting off at our stop, one man said to everyone else on the tap tap "that is the white man who gave us rice after the hurricane," another time Jeff helped a lady get her large basket into the taptap then he stood up and gave her his seat, when she got off she gave us a handful of mangoes so Jeff preceded to teach them that we must look not only to our interests, but the interests of others. He also taught that when you give you will recieve a blessing.

Arcenio came to Cap to see us yesterday and gave us a contact of a friend here in Caicos, Jeff is teaching with him right now. Joceyln picked us up at the airport and brought us back to his house. We plan to go back to North Caicos tomorrow and Thursday to teach and show the movie, passion of the Christ.

Who's your shelter in the time of storm?

Yesterday was very busy. Jeff has much more stamina than I do, I kept up with him all day yesterday, but today I am exhausted. It is very hot which really takes a lot out of you. So instead, I opted to stay at the house today and work on getting Bibles ready. We have been marking the Bibles with the plan of salvation, examples of conversions and other important things before we give them out. We met a man yesterday from Pennsylvania. He has lived in Caicos for about 12 years, which I can’t figure out why because he had nothing good to say about the country and believes whites should have nothing to do with blacks. Very sad and I think he also was a Sadducee, he didn’t think much of Christianity, not any hope in the resurrection. That is “Sad You See.” Jeff met a lady who is actually from Caicos today and we are going to go to her house tonight at 6:00 to study the Bible. Did you ever wonder where the Ethiopian eunuch got the scroll of Isaiah? One plants, another waters, and God adds the increase. Please pray that the Bibles we are giving out plant a seed in good soil. Saturday we are going to Haiti for 4 days to check on Mme Remi and Mme Albert. They are both Christian sisters and widows. Today I took several Bibles Carol prepared and went to a marina. I met several people from the country of Ghana, English was there first language and they invited me to share with them. Most had the same struggle , lust for women. It is very common here for men and women to have multiple partners. They recognize the sin and it’s consequence but choose not to leave it. I walked about 6 miles today. There are many benefits to walking it‘s good for you, it humbles you, it slows you down and forces you to stop, rest and talk to people. On my way home from the marina a man stopped that had gone by me twice before and offered me a ride. We had a great talk he was tired of organized religion and was looking for examples of the truth. He works in construction and I offered to work and ride with him tomorrow. When he let me out he thanked me for the Bible and ask me to call him tonight, he said he would like his wife to meet mine. Please continue to pray that God will move before us and we will follow His lead. In Christ Jeff

9/9/09 Wisdom and Folly
Recently I have encouraged many of you to read a proverb a day to keep the devil away. There are 31 Proverbs so each day read the proverb for that date. Today is the ninth the proverb speaks of wisdom and folly.
Notice both wisdom and folly call out from a high point of the city, both offer food and drink, wisdom offers her food that she has prepared freely. Folly offers stolen water and food eaten in secret with a promise of pleasure.
This reminds me of our temple it is meant to be the home or dwelling place of the Holly Spirit. Many times we have surrendered it to the woman folly. Then of our own power we attempt to clean it up and leave it vacant, thinking we will have rest. However folly returns with many of her friends and our condition is worse than when we started. The scriptures tell us we need to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of our sins and we will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38
Folly and Wisdom call out to you today which one will win the place in your heart? The one you feed.
Last night we showed the Passion of the Christ, We set the projector up on a small hill and showed the film on the side of a small store. Several people came and sat on the hill to watch the graphic story of the crucifixion of our Lord. This is a powerful, difficult movie to watch.
Many times we complain about our economic or physical sufferings, we have not yet suffered to the point of death!

Yesterday I met a man with a tee shirt that said Riverside Church of Christ. I’m not sure where the shirt started from, but it ended up here. The owner was at the movie last night, we hope to speak more with him today. The Little boys continue to ask Miss Carol if she will read to them from the Bible, they have never been disappointed. The scripture says train up a child in the way they will go and when they are old they will not turn from it. We need to stop complaining about the behavior of our children, grandchildren and neighbors and start training.
Everyday 90% of the people we see are Haitian, most of the service workers are Haitian, we have made many contacts and hope to find someone that would be willing to start a church in there home please pray for this.
Lord willing we may travel to Haiti Saturday for three days to encourage the brethren there. Jeff and Carol

We arrived safely and was met at the airport by Joceyn. He is a friend of two of our preacher friends in Haiti. Him and his wife put us up in their home, which is very comfortable. Their daughter and her 4 children also live here with them. Their is one girl and 3 boys, all about the same ages as our grandchildren so that has been fun. They attend the baptist church. Jeff was asked to speak the first night so he taught on the importance of taking the Lord's supper every Sunday. Last night they asked Jeff to present me so I gave a testimony about being baptized and really emphasized the importance of burying the old body by immersion. The first night here I sat down to read my Bible and the one little grandson, his name is Brian, asked me if I would teach him to read the Bible. What a blessing!! I had a children's Bible with me so we have been reading that. Yesterday when he got home from school, I was resting and he told Jefff that as soom as Ms. Carol gets up we are going to read the Bible. Jeff has been teaching with a couple men this morning about baptism. I asked Mme Jocelyn and her daughter if we could study tonight after church, they both said yes. Please keep this in your prayers. Welcome from Providenciales Turks and Caicos
We arrived safely at 3pm Sunday evening. We were met at the airport by Jocylen a friend of Jeremy Baptise of Cap Haitian. He took us to his home an offered us a very comfortable room.”His room” We went to the local IGA store and picked up some groceries, they had anything you needed, fresh milk,bread ,meat and frozen foods. It was very modern, just like the states the only difference was the price, everything was about double.
I took a walk and talked to several Haitians, I think they were surprised to see a white man speaking Creole. Latter in the evening I went to a meeting at a local church and Carol stayed and read Bible stories with the grandchildren that also stayed in the home.
The preacher spoke about Hannah and her vow to give God her first born if God would bless her with a son. He then asked how many other children did God bless Hhanah with after the first? Do you know? I had to look it up?
He spoke a lot about giving your first to God. He spoke about physical and material offerings. At the end he asked for questions there was a large discussion about it’s more blessed to give than receive.
At the close they noticed there was a visitor and asked if I would address the people. I greeted them from the churches in the US and Haiti. I took the opportunity to encourage them to consider honoring God with the observance of the Lords Supper the FIRST day of the week as the early church did in Acts 20 verse 7. Not as an obligation or being forced but as an example or recognition of the spiritual importance of the Lords table in relationship to a physical weekly offering. I hope to get a chance to speak more tomorrow.
I walked about 2 miles one way to the Ocean this morning. There was a construction site with a high end hotel and condo units. The Condos went for $4300.00 us per day. Iwould be happy to reserve a room for you.
As wonderful as they were and as impressive as it would be to tell some one you had reservations there. Think how wonderful and true that in Gods eternal dwelling there are many Mansions and Jesus has gone there to prepare a place for us.
Be encouraged today by Gods word. May his compassion living in you swallow your fears.

I love this verse of scripture and the encouragement it gives. We just purchased our tickets to go to Caicos, Sept. 6th till the 18th. I must admit I do have some butterflies in my stomach. This is a land we do not know. But, what we do know is that there is no Christian church there and like Jeff said in our last newsletter, “We realize that each country is unique, however, there are several similarities. Romans 3:23,’We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.’ We are all in need of the Savior.” Because of that, we are excited and ready to go and labor for the Lord.

We are collecting compact, soft cover Bibles to take with us. The people speak English, and even though there are several Haitians there that we plan to teach, they also speak English.
Jacque gave us a phone number of the son of a man from his congregation, who lives in Caicos. We were able to make contact with him and hopefully he can find us a place to stay. The motels are very expensive. Of course, we will take a small tent in with us, to pacify me.

Jeremy, a Haitian preacher friend of ours from CapHaitian, runs a radio station which broadcasts in Caicos so we are hoping that he can make some announcements for us about when and where to meet.

It is our desire to fly into Haiti for 3 or 4 days, since it is so close.
We want to check on the progress of Mme Remi’s house and the fish ponds. Also, we just sent funds in for repairs needed on Mme Albert’s house, so we want to make sure that gets started.
Some prayer requests we have are:
Willing hearts and minds to receive the gospel message.
A place where we can meet to teach.
Lodging for us while we are there.
Safe travel.
Good health.

I, Jeff, spent last week in the woods of S.E Kalkaska County at the Northmen men’s meetings. I had a great time with our son-in- law Nick, and our two grandsons, Nathan and Travis. Many of the sermons centered around dying to self and being a servant for Christ. What an encouragement! One thing that stuck with me, a speaker talked about a business trip to England and when they found out he was a preacher they asked him to hold a service. The result was 68 people were baptized into Christ. An American preacher asked, what was the secret to that kind of response. He said the most important part , is to make sure you speak to at least 68 people that have never been baptized for the remission of their sins. What a reminder that at times we can get too comfortable and preach to the choir. Jesus did command us to go. I believe that means wherever we go for what ever reason. If it’s to the post office, grocery store or England on a business trip. Let your speech be seasoned with salt that men might thirst for the Living water of our Savior!

Luke 13:22 says, “Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem.” We pray that we can follow the example of Jesus.

Thanks for following the blog, The trip has been and is a great experience. Very exhausting, We teach 2-4 hr sessions two to three times a day. There is plenty of Sunshine and we thank God for the breeze. Travel is always hard , food and bathroom acomadations add to the experience. I appreciate your prayers. We have had great teaching on the new testament church. The people have been very reponsive and hospitable. There is much teaching that needs to be done . not just in India but in the world. The harvest is plentiful the workers are few. Pray to the Lord that He will send workers to the field.

Two of the men with us are new in theri faith but strong in their response. Ethan McDonald sixteen years old from Austrilia and Gary Mershure from indiana. These been have come to share what God has done for them. Please pray for the rest of the trip. Tonight we continue with small church meetings. Tommorrow we will start our return from the cape. We will return to Ammabakam to John Samuels and use that as a base. From there we will to teacher training and return to Chenai for evangelism. In Christ Jeff
